Page Title Formats

Delmar Larsen <dlarsen@...>

I wanted to mention the title format that we have adopted on the LibreTexts for pages. Unless impossible to do, it is desired that each page be formatted like this "XX.YY: title"

where

  • XX is the chapter number
  • YY is the section number
  • title is the title

If the title has a colon it in (other the then colon after the chapter.section combo), please convert it to a dash.

Several exceptions to this format include:

  • Chapter Summaries : "XX.S: Chapter Title (Summary)"),
  • Chapter Exercises : ""XX:.E Chapter Title (Exercises)" and
  • Section subpages (avoid if possible), which should be then indicated by adding a letter (alphabetically). e.g., "4.3A: Cats are cute" and "4.3B: Dogs are cute" are both subsections to section/page "4.3: Animals are cute"

This approach preserves the curation and Remixing ability of the pages. It also preserve the automatic equations/figure/table numbering that work off of the title of the page.

Yes, the html code is not the same as the what the editor uses. I am using the terms for the editor since more people do not edit the html directly.

Re: latex in template boxes

Delmar Larsen <dlarsen@...>

No really. Eventually, we will use the <Figure><Figcaption> tag that you can get via the templates option (select center-center and copy and paste). This will tie the caption to the figure so that when you print they are not separated. It also helps in SEO and enable easy editing of the caption using CSS.

We haven't push this aspect yet to the construction community, but we have been using the APIBot to fit texts on an individual basis.

You just had some residual HTML in your latex so mathjax couple figure
out what to do (likely your italics). If that happens, 90% of the time
if you just clear the formating it will work.

What should I do?

Also, any input on embedding JSmol features like hack-a-mol, I am

Editing issues (for consistent typesetting on LibreTexts libraries)

Delmar Larsen <dlarsen@...>

Dear all:

I wanted to give a refresher on a few things that I have noticed needed to be changed in harvesting/building content on the LibreTexts libraries. Here are four things to address.

  • Please use \[ and \] for displaying equations in display mode (single line).
  • Please use \( and \) for inline equations or symbols (i.e., in a sentence).
  • Also, please expand all tables as tables rather than images
  • Lastly, you can use h1 (header 1) as the first header option for sections (i.e., do not use h2 as the first). For nested sections, then use H2.. and if needed (rarely) use h3. This is needed for screen readers/accessibility.

The reason is that consistency in our construction efforts enables us to effective curate content and effectively remix content into customized text/courses.

Keep up the good work.

That is odd. This happens when the internet gets poor at times, but not when things are 100% ok.

I can edit the page fine on my side (and did a little bit). Can you do a control-f5 and see if you still have the issue?

Currently Yes.

Version 1.0 of the Remixer is a one time process although the Remixing map used to make the remix should be saved in your computer's cookies for later editing (unless you have made another remix since and erased it). Remixer 2.0 (when released) will have the ability to use the Remixer tech to restructure existing remixes and hence overwrite existing texts.

For now, you have to created a new Remixer and delete the past one. Version 2.0 will likely be released before the  summer.

Re: Symbols gone in chrome (only)

Robert Belford

I just had the same problem, and hard reset did not seem to work. I
then opened Firefox, got in and noticed I was still logged in on the
page in chrome, even though I had shut down the page. So I logged out
of LibreText entirely and logged back in (to LibreText), went to a
page and the icons had returned.

I actually did all three of these things:

Hold down Ctrl and click the Reload button.
Or, Hold down Ctrl and press F5.
Or just open the Chrome Dev Tools by pressing F12. Once the chrome dev
tools are open, just right click on the refresh button and a menu will
drop down.

And alone, none of the above worked.

But after I logged out and logged in (after doing the above),
everything was fine. So I am not sure if you have to do the above
with login/logout, or if login/logout alone did the trick.

Cheers,
Bob

Re: Deleting a chapter from a published book

Susan:

Currently Yes.

Version 1.0 of the Remixer is a one time process although the Remixing map used to make the remix should be saved in your computer's cookies for later editing (unless you have made another remix since and erased it). Remixer 2.0 (when released) will have the ability to use the Remixer tech to restructure existing remixes and hence overwrite existing texts.

For now, you have to created a new Remixer and delete the past one. Version 2.0 will likely be released before the  summer.

Hey all.  I feel like such a newb...
I pulled together a composition textbook from several existing ones, I clicked "publish" and now I want to go back and delete a chapter.  When I try to save the new version, I can't overwrite the old textbook.  Do I have to create a new one?  What am I missing?
