I may have to reapply a different CSS on that page to avoid this. Keep a record of it and we can review later on.

Definition lists and toggling #Formatting

smmuller@...

A couple of the books I've harvested recently use definition lists for some of their terms. LibreTexts formats anything with the <dl> tag so it starts out collapsed, and toggles if you click it. It doesn't look right on some of the pages.

For example, on this page:

https://eng.libretexts.org/Under_Construction/Think_Complexity%3A_Exploring_Complexity_Science_with_Python_(Downey)/04%3A_Scale-free_networks/4.06%3A_Generating_BA_graphs

The sections for "targets:" and "repeated_nodes:" start out collapsed.

You have to click them to get the description.

Usually collapsed definition lists are also blue like a link as a hint to click them, but the <code> format for these terms makes them gray, so it's kind of easy to miss.
Is there a way to modify how definition lists are formatted on a specific page or section of text? Or should I just change the format to something like bullet point lists instead?

Hi Delmar, yes, please give Suzanne and me the ability to force compile because we might need it next month as we are rushing to finalize the book before the June 1 deadline.
Regards,
Mandeep.

The book needs to be compiled". This happens automatically on a one-week period since it is time-intensive and CPU-intensive. We can provide you the ability to force compile if you want it.

Yes, got it. Why didn't I think of the right click?
Thank you, Delmar.

Right click on the table for its properties. You will find the answer in there. If you still need assistance, I will address tomorrow.

Table Accessibility #accessibility

Grewal, Mandeep

Hello, I have created a table in the Cardiovascular system section. Table 1 was already there; I inserted table 2. I cannot create the top row looking like the top row of table 1. I am also worried that all tables have regular text in the row and column headers. Shouldn't they be special headers like we create in the word document and the Canvas rich textbox? Also, I cannot find the alt text option for the tables. Could you direct me to a resource where I can learn more about Libretext tables?
Thank you,
Mandeep.

You can download a range of export options under the blue Download button, if the book is compiled by the dev team.

Thanks, Delmar!  This is wonderful!  I didn't think there would be so many examples available.  I will definitely explore the new instance once that's ready.

Anna:

Brian's bookshelves book has the H5P problems embedded formatively:

https://med.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Nutrition/Book%3A_Intermediate_Nutrition_(Lindshield)

It is set summatively in his Campus Hub book (since you have to log in to see the problems and couple to a gradebook).

For Spanish, there are several OERI teams (and a LibreNet team) that have build H5P problems into their texts:

Caren Parish and others is working on a French text:

There are other texts too (a chemistry one, ESL, a nutrition book, nursing, and others), but I need to dig up their URLs. Most of these text are from OERI sponsored teams.

We will be setting up a H5Pstudio instance like that that eCampus Ontario has (https://h5pstudio.ecampusontario.ca/), which is a lot more powerful and easier to work with than the simple WordPress instance. I hope this will be operational in a few months.

Thanks!  I only needed one line on the bottom, so I was able to use your code on the final "Note" row, and that worked well enough.  A few more lines than needed for APA Style, but that's better than a missing element!

I can probably make a bot. Although I would prefer to set this up with CSS. I never knew about this.

Re: Gridline in table? #templates #Figures #Formatting

I figured out how to get lines - but it's pretty clunky.  You need to add the following to each <td> element.  As in, you need to go into the html and find each <td> and add this to the very end

style="border:1px solid black;"

example:
<td style="border:1px solid black;">

It would be lovely if there was an easier way.   I also need to have some tables entirely white (rather than striped).  The code isn't working for that.  Any ideas?

I need it for table 2 on this page: https://bio.libretexts.org/Bookshelves/Human_Biology/Book%3A_Human_Biology_(Wakim_and_Grewal)/08%3A_Inheritance/8.5%3A_Complex_Inheritance

The band in the middle makes the pictures look weird.  White would look better.  Not a bit deal if it's not possible.

Re: Gridline in table? #templates #Figures #Formatting

yes, Let me pull it up. It may require editing the HTML though.
Please don't take pics of tables. That breaks accessibility guidelines.
