Attributions #Licensing #referencing

moja@...

I have a couple of questions about attributions, and think that the forum might work better than Officer Hours?  We'll see!

First, I'm building my Remix Map, and it looks like that I'll be combining a couple of other authors' Pages in many sections.  From my understanding, I'll use one Page as the primary one, then fork it and copy/paste from another authors' Page.  How do I make sure that the second author gets attributed?

Second, I'm curious about attributions when I radically change someone else's Page.  Will it still be attributed to them?  How should I show attribution to myself?  If I change it so much that it's not recognizable as their prior work, what should the attribution look like?

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Re: header links

Henry worked up a solution that solves this. There is a little more fine tuning needed for the hyperlinks for mathjax equations (they still suffer from this), but Henry's solution may be extended to that system.

Re: statistics on usage?

Delmar Larsen

Depends on the nature of interaction. Google Analytics will track time on page (only if there is a second page that they can use to mark the two ends). We have our own tracking system that give more comprehensive information, but only for classes that hook up with our new Single-Sign-On system that lets students sign in via their campus to study with a specific book (on a Campus Bookshelf). I can share more information about the SSO or the tracking if you like. The tracking if part of standard operating procedure for learning analytics for instructors of record and do not need IRB. A proper research study is a different matter entirely.

Hi Josh,
That's great to know! Thank you so much for doing that research.  I had done that a while back but now it looks like there are a couple of new uses.

Hi Anna

Saw your exchange with Delmar in the group.io To find others at libretexts that are using your book

Just type your name in the search box and look at the return or use this URL

Karen Woodring from Harrisburg Area CC in PA is using your book

Bob Wycoff from Housatonic CC is using at least chapters

Laura Gilbert from Community College of Allegheny County is using at least chapters

A couple of others have chapters in their sandboxes.

Also use this search string in google to pick up non-libretexts use
"How Arguments Work - A Guide to Writing and Analyzing Texts in College" -site:libretexts.org

For example your book is featured at the Los Angeles Valley College Library site

Sure. I attached the report to this message. The upshot is 48,871 pageviews and 69 days of reading. I don't see any self-reported adoptions for your text, but I do think others have remixed parts of for their book. I don't have a system in place to track that and get you statistics about that. Okay, I see what you mean.  I was assuming that unique pageviews was similar to pageviews but excluded any returns to the same page by the same user.

Unique pageviews doesn't give a measure of the number of individuals who have interacted with the book, does it?  I don't know enough about how the internet works these days to know if it's even possible to get that information.  I worked in the field a bit 20 years ago, so my information is ancient.

Sure. I attached the report to this message. The upshot is 48,871 pageviews and 69 days of reading. I don't see any self-reported adoptions for your text, but I do think others have remixed parts of for their book. I don't have a system in place to track that and get you statistics about that. I hope to have something set up in the summer that provides a "flow" chart of how your pages get dispersed on our platform (if I can get the visualization people going on it).

You're right, Larry. Now it's happening on all the pages I check again.

It's oddly intermittent though. Thankfully, it was not happening between 3:00 and 4:30 pm this afternoon while I gave a webinar on LibreTexts.

I'll alert Henry that it's still happening.

I just checked it again with a random page in a calculus book and it
still is dark.

Hi Robert,
I had the same thing happen to me. I agree with you that it is very annoying. Does anyone know if this can be fixed system wide, so it does not happen to my students?

Hi All,

Twice today my screen turned black. The first time I fixed it by going into chrome and changing all my setting to default. The second (just now), I turned of the dark mode on the BeeLine. Does anyone know why this is happening? Image below.

Do a control-f5 and it should be fixed. We had an issue with the sidepanel.
