Re: Front and Back Matter?

If you have uploaded your books to the Download center (via the meta-tag "Cover Page"), then they come up. We can erase them and flip the switch or "hide" them so no one can view them.

Re: Is there a way to do a search within a specific course or book? #courseshells

Dorte Madsen

The best way to do that is actually to simply do a regular google search and include "site:link to the book" after the search term.

For example:
entropy site:chem.libretexts.org/Courses/University_of_California_Davis/UCD_Chem_002B

gives only search results for entropy within Delmar's 2B class.

Thanks. Great that the font size may soon be flexible. As far as the extra space, I mean that multiple sections within a chapter could appear on one page.  After one section ends, another could start immediately below. I was also hoping that the sections could start right after the chapter's table of contents on the same page.

If you mean the extra space at the end of each page, then we won't be able to change that easily. We could combine all the pages together into a single page and then print, but we will have to change the autonumbering system. Perhaps, but not immediately.

I'm also wondering if there is a way to increase the font size on the main text of the book for easier reading.

Yes. We are planning to make custom CSS for each text to handle things like this. Give us a week or two.

I've checked the Contruction Guide page on publishing to Lulu XPress (https://chem.libretexts.org/Courses/Remixer_University/Construction_Guide/7%3A_Disseminating_Texts_and_Course_Shells/6.2%3A_How_to_Publish_to_Lulu_xPress).

Yes, this is before uploading to Lulu and is not mentioned in the Construction Guide.

Re: Regarding assessment creation in LibreTexts

Delmar Larsen <dlarsen@...>

Currently the Common Cartridge output for LMS is set up for the text part and not the rest of the Course Shell. There is no limitation in our current organization to using the full shell. I am unsure how it would look though since Common Cartridge has a two level heirarchy and a different approach is needed. We are working on that for a different K12 project though, so things will change soon.

Importing Quizing may be more complicated depending which system we use. Stay tuned on that.

So if I look at: https://chem.libretexts.org/Courses/University_of_California_Davis/UCD_Chem_002A/UCD_Chem_2A

I see an agenda, homework, and worksheets. How do these show up in Canvas if I import the Common Cartridge for this course? Does homework get imported as Canvas Assignments?? Can I create quizzes in LibreTexts that get imported into Canvas Quizzes??

Thanks

That's an excellent idea, Dorte!

I really like it!!

And providing a way to jump to the source to edit there would be so helpful!

It just needs to be clear which is happening.

I think the "forking" option should simply appear when you try to edit a transcluded page. I hope that is possible. Ideally it would ask "Do you want to create a copy of the page (i.e. fork the page) or edit the original".

I'm ok with changing the location of the fork option, although I have to say that it seems to make more sense to keep it where it is next to the title than to be in the options list.  Maybe we could place two links there (next to the title), one linking to the source and the other to do the fork.

When I see "fork" on the options list, I assume that it means I want to fork the current page (not convert it to a fork of the source I don't see).  I think of it as a copy-full option.

At the very least, I would recommend that the fork option not be included in the Options list for a page that is not itself transcluded.  I think this is just leading to confusion.

On which pages? Does the Forker option under the "Options" menu have the effect you expect? I am toying with the idea of switching the forker button next to the icon to a link to the source material instead and use the Forker option on the Options menu instead.

2) During the workshop at SMC yesterday, we noticed that the "copy-transclude" function was also not working.
We are aware of this and probably should disable this option until we get it looking and working like Copy option

Both seems to be a systemic problem across all libraries, and browser independent. Are other people having similar issues?

Re: New box container

Delmar Larsen <dlarsen@...>

The box I mentioned was meant so that people can add interactive content that has no reason to print up in PDFs.

We have several PDF output options including a combined PDF and a zip file of PDFs of all pages in your book (once added to the download center). If you want to chat about that, let me know.

Re: Add a MP3 or WAV file to the Remix Folder

It is a good idea. We were discussing making that explicit in the code earlier this year, but got sidetracked. There is nothing stopping you from doing this since the molecules are stored in ascii files.

If I can jump on this discussion bringing up a related issue that I've been struggling with...
Regarding accessing files with JS code, I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to save on LibreTexts servers the files used to display interactive molecular models.
A couple of weeks ago the "NIH NCI" server that is used to display small molecules was down for several days, which means that any textbook page using that server would "hang".
The same can be applied, albeit less likely, to GLMol/Jmol using PubChem or PDB servers:

Here's the question: in order to avoid this third-party server dependencies, would it be feasible to use a "fixed local URL" for display of molecular models?
