Re: Best way to add my own figures - upload to LibreTexts or somewhere else and link?

Dawn:

We don't have a system to the same level as Wikicommons. However, we can hook up a Depot of sorts to house them (we have something on chemistry for the same reason), but it is not a mini-database like wikicommons.

Now that I think of it, if we make a page up for each image, we can then tap into the meta-tags infrastructure of the entire database including tagging licensing and descriptions and any other aspects of importance. Give me a few days to think about it and consult with others before opening it up for business.

highlight and erase formatting and see if it fixes itself.

You will note that I revamped section 1.1. That is the general format I want you to follow (irrespective of the typesetting of the original content).

Re: regarding left and right align

Delmar Larsen <dlarsen@...>

I would use a standard HTML table via the editor toolbar instead of using mathjax to render the table.

Seeburger, Paul (Mathematics)

You can use the \begin{align*} and \end{align*} version to align without the equation numbering.

Hi all,

I am having trouble with trouble getting rid of parenthetical references at the end of multiline equations. I am using the \begin{align} and \end{align} format for these multiline equations so I can align them by the equal signs on each line, but I can't get rid of the references and I thought that wasn't supposed to happen as long as I use the format??

Re: trouble getting rid of parenthetical references at the end of multiline equations

try adding \nonumber or \notag to the latex code

Re: autonum & Templates

Hi Bob,

a) The formatting difference is because the automatic numbering uses the format from the title. The first example you use has the (correct) title format "11.2: Ion-Dipole Forces" while the second one has a - instead of a . : "14-4: Integrated Rate Law"
Fix the title and the numbering format will be consistent.

b) I can only answer this partially: Yes, you need a label because that is how the equation is referenced. So for example:
$E=mc^2 \label{EinsteinEq}$
To reference this equation you have to use the command \ref like this: See equation \ref{EinsteinEq}

Someone else will have to answer the part about referencing across pages, I don't know.

c) No, you do not need to add anything

Re: display error

Also note that \displaystye should not be used here, find details on when to use that code here (section "when editing math pages")

Re: display error

Hi Diana,
The (%) confuses things, I think. I am not sure what you goal is but try
$\text{Output Gap (%)} = \frac {Y - Y_P}{Y_P} \times \:100$
and let me know if that is what you are after

autonum & Templates

Robert Belford

I have some questions dealing with autonum and thought I'd post them to the forum.
(a) Why does the first page below show the Figure format of 11.2.2 ,
https://chem.libretexts.org/Courses/University_of_Arkansas_Little_Rock/Chem_1403%3A_General_Chemistry_2/Chapters/11._Intermolecular_Forces_and_Liquids/11.2%3A_Ion-Dipole_Forces
https://chem.libretexts.org/Courses/University_of_Arkansas_Little_Rock/Chem_1403%3A_General_Chemistry_2/Chapters/14%3A_Rates_of_Chemical_Reactions/14-4%3A_Integrated_Rate_Law

That is one page is #-#.# . while the other is #.#.#

(b)  if we want to link to an equation, do we still need \label{}, if the numbers are being autonumbered anyways?  .... So how do you link to an eq?  Especially if the link is from a different chapter?

(c) The  Template:BoxExercise states: "Add text here. For the automatic number to work, you need to add the "AutoNum" template (preferably at the end) to the page.", is this still needed?
Is there a tutorial on the use of the templates?
Cheers,
Bob

display error

djychen@...

Hello,

I am having trouble getting an equation to display correctly, and I don't know whether it's a site error or my own mistake in the code. I have attached images of my code and the display below. Thank you!

my code:
$\text{Output Gap}(%) = \displaystyle\frac {Y - Y_P}{Y_P} \times \:100$

view the image for the displayed code.

Respectfully,
Diana

Re: Bordermatrix Function

Hi Alexandra,
Try this:
\begin{array}{lrl} {} & {b} & {c} \\ {1} & {(2} & {3)}\end{array}

Try

\left|    \right\rangle as in

\left| \dfrac{a}{b} \right\rangle
